WiFi on desktop computer

Most desktop computers do not have the ability to connect to a WiFi network but there is a very simple and convenient way of achieving that without having to buy any additional hardware if you own an Android phone or tablet with version 2.2 or higher.

  1. Connect your mobile phone to your PC via USB.
  2. Go to settings and look for “Thethering & portable hotspot”.
    On the Alcatel Pop 2 4.5 (OT5042D), it is in Settings > More… > Wireless & networks.
  3. Click on “Thethering & portable hotspot” and check “USB Tethering”.

You now have WiFi on your desktop computer but you must select the WiFi network from your phone itself.
On Thethering & portable hotspot tab, you can also share your internet connection (WiFi or Data) via Bluetooth by checking “Bluetooth Tethering”.

If you still do not get an internet connection, it is probably because the driver is missing. Connect your computer to internet via Ethernet and repeat the above process and wait for like 5 minutes. You can now disconnect the ethernet cable to check if it works.

Tested on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 without any additional steps.
